Thor is the third movie in The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third film in Phase One. In this movie, the three heroes meet for the first time.

Plot[]
The movie begins in New Mexico. Jane Foster and Professor Erik Selvig are in the New Mexico desert, working in a van while conducting research about a strange anomaly. Suddenly, a tornado of lighting hits them and in the midst of the tornado, a man falls on the van. It was a blonde, well-built, unconscious man. The scene cuts to Asgard, as Odin Allfather and Frigga explain a battle between Asgardians and Frost Giants to his two children: The energetic Thor, and the thoughtful Loki. The Asgardians won the war, and took possession of the Casket of Ancient Winters. Although they are both worthy, only one can be king of Asgard. The scene cuts to Thor, now an adult, ready to take his place as Prince of Asgard, as Loki watches in envy. Before he can crown Thor prince, however, 3 Frost Giants invade Asgard, and try to take hold of the Casket. They are quickly stopped by the Destroyer, but Thor is furious while Odin remains calm. Thor says he wants to attack which Odin disagrees with.
Thor, still angry about the attack, gathers his friends. Fandrall, Hogun, and Volstagg, the Warriors Three, Lady Sif, and his brother Loki, as they approach Heimdall to travel on the Bifrost Bridge. Heimdall allows them, and they travel the Bifrost to Jotunheim, the realm of the Frost Giants. They approach Laufey, who taunt the Asgardians about how foolish they are. Laufey offers them the chance to leave peacefully, and Loki was able to persuade his brother into leaving. However, Thor reacts brashly to an insult from a Frost Giant, and he attacks. In the battle, Hogun gets touched by a Frost Giant, and his skin melts, however when Loki gets touched, he has an unusual reaction. Laufey unleashes a Frost Beast and they retreat to the Bifrost. The beast is killed by Thor, but they are surrounded and outnumbered. Odin arrives to save the warriors and apologized to Laufey for the intrusion. Unfortunately, Laufey says that the Asgardians are beyond reason and declares war. The warriors travel back to Asgard. Back at Asgard, Odin lets the four warriors go, but keeps Thor and Loki to talk to them. Odin is furious that Thor went behind his back, and started a war, and strips him of his armor, power, and hammer and banishes him to Earth. Odin then casts a spell on Mjølnir that says that only the worthy can wield this hammer, and the power of Thor, and sends it to Earth in a desert.
Back on Earth, after Thor falls on Erik Selvig's van, he regains consciousness and asks where he is. Thor is confused and angry, and tries to attack before Jane Foster tases him. They load him in the van, and takes him to the hospital. However Thor starts fighting once again as soon as he wakes up until they eventually tranquilize him. Selvig tries to get Jane to leave him be, believing that Thor is a psychopath, but she is curious and attracted to him. Meanwhile at the crash-site of Thor's hammer, Agent Coulson tells Fury that they found the hammer. Back at the hospital, Thor escapes and is hit by Selvig's van again and knocked out. This time, they decide to take him with them and Jane gives him civilian clothes. After hearing about a crash on the television, Thor recognizes it as his hammer, and wants to go there. Selvig once again tries to get Jane to leave him alone, but she refuses and gives Thor a ride to the west in the van. At the crash, S.H.I.E.L.D. sets up a camp to study the hammer. Thor infiltrates the camp, while Jane hides in safety, and is attacked by many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. After defeating many agents, Thor is targeted by another agent armed with a bow. He is told to stand down. Thor finally reaches the hammer, but is unable to lift it. He collapses in sadness and anger and makes no attempt to escape as he is captured by S.H.I.E.L.D.
In Asgard, Thor's friends begin to suspect that Loki had something to do with Thor's banishment. Loki finds out from Odin that he is not a pure Asgardian and that he was taken from Jotunheim as an infant and raised as an Agardian by him and Frigga. Odin falls into a coma-like state called the Odinsleep, leaving Loki to take his place as king and take possession of the Casket of Ancient Winters. Back on Earth, Coulson questions Thor, and when he leaves Thor alone, Loki appears that tells him that Odin is dead, and he can't go back to Asgard, leaving Thor distraught. Selvig uses a fake drivers licence to lie to S.H.I.E.L.D. that Thor is Jane's ex-husband under the influence of sterioids. Coulson let's Selvig take Thor who secretly takes Jane's notebook on the way out. Back in town, Thor and Selvig get a drink as Selvig tells Thor to leave Jane alone, as he would only cause her more problems due to the complications he has. They bond over drinks as Thor brings a drunk Selvig back to Jane's trailer. Thor and Jane go out and gaze at the stars while Thor explains the Bifrost Bridge and the Nine Realms. Jane figures that the bridge is the same theoretical Einstein-Rosen Bridge wormhole that she has been researching.
On Asgard, Loki freezes Heimdall using the Casket, and uses the Bifrost to meet up with Laufey. It was Loki who let the Frost Giants invade to steal the Casket during Thor's crowning of prince. He makes a deal that Laufey will kill Odin during his time in the Odinsleep and have their Casket, and in return, they leave in peace. Laufey agrees, and Loki summons the Destroyer to Earth to kill Thor. Back on Earth, the Destroyer arrives in New Mexico, and starts shooting heat-vision at everything. Selvig and Jane try to get everyone out safely while Thor confronts the Destroyer and asks Loki, who can see and hear everything, the leave to humans alone. The Destroyer then begins brutally beating up Thor, and throws him into a nearby tractor, apparently leaving him dead. Jane runs over to Thor's bloody body in tears. However, Thor's selfless sacrifice deems him worthy once again, and Mjølnir frees itself from the crater and flies into Thor's hand. He is revived and once again fitted with his red cape and armor. He easily defeats the Destroyer and tries to return to Asgard, promising Jane that he will return. The Frost Giants invade through the portal and walk past the frozen Heimdall. Laufey walks up to Odin's bedchamber, and as he prepares to kill him, Loki kill Laufey, to appear to be the hero.
Heimdall, frozen but still conscious, breaks free from the ice and brings Thor back to Asgard. Loki goes to Heimdall's Observatory and sets the bridge to destroy the realm of Jotunheim. Thor tries to stop him, and a battle begins between the two brothers. Thor immobilizes Loki with Mjølnir and starts to destroy the Rainbow Bridge to stop the portal. Thor shatters the bridge and the two brothers fall into space, but Odin comes and catches them. Thor is holding Loki by his staff to save him, but Loki admits defeat and lets go, falling into the void of space, much to Thor's sadness. Everything seems normal back on Asgard, although Thor mourns for his brother, and misses Jane Foster, whom he can not visit due to the destruction of the Bifrost. However, Heimdall assures him that Jane is looking for him. Back on Earth, Jane is in a new lab with equipment, now being supported by S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, Erik Selvig is taken by Nick Fury to the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility, where he is shown the Tesseract, which is a source of unlimited power. Selvig says that it's worth a look while under the influence of Loki, who survived his fall from space.
After the credits, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner are discussing the incident with Thor with Agent Coulson. They ask if Thor would be recruited into the team, which Coulson is unsure of.
